College Transition Services for Students with Special Needs

Helping students with special needs navigate the complicated bridge from high school to college

It was in the early 1990s that I realized the need for increased information about colleges for students with special needs and I established College-Bound Services. Well aware of the on-going frustration experienced by parents, school counselors and independent educational consultants, I created this unique tool to identify colleges that go above and beyond the expectations set forth under Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A Must-Have Counseling Tool

A database and more, based on years of research and practical experience, lists over 600 US colleges that have special "fee-for-service" programs or superior support for students with special needs. This is a must-have tool for every school counselor or educational consultant.

What People Are Saying…

Having known Allen Tinkler professionally for nearly 25 years, I have always admired the cutting edge knowledge he shares with students, families and colleagues during the transition-to-college experience. Allen has a rare understanding of how the often-different worlds of high school and postsecondary education work for students with disabilities. This new database will be a tremendous resource for countless consumers who might otherwise get overwhelmed by choices without fully understanding the different levels of disability services now available on U.S. college campuses.

Allen has created an invaluable reference for counselors guiding students with disabilities in their post-secondary planning. The detailed information he has gathered on external side-by-side programs can be found nowhere else and is especially helpful for families struggling with the enormity of a college transition for students who still need significant support.
— Kimberly Miller, Ph.D. | Educational Consultant and Director of College Guidance | Bridges Academy | Studio City, CA
An esteemed colleague and mentor, I am so thankful that Allen Tinkler has put together this gem of a resource. His thorough research will help me guide my students to choices that fit their very specific special needs.

The database is great! Very impressive design, detail, organization - so helpful! The sections summarizing the disability categories are particularly good. The entire document is clear, streamlined and accessible. Best of all, it comes from someone who knows this information thoroughly and has been doing this work honestly and reliably for a long time. Thanks so much, Allen!
