A VALUABLE INFORMATION GUIDE ON COLLEGES WITH SUPERIOR SERVICES & PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
About the Disabilities Database Resource
College-Bound Services brings you this unique resource which lists over 600 colleges throughout the U.S. that have actual programs or, at a minimum, superior support for students with special needs. It provides college information broken down by disability classification.
How can it help in the college search process?
Skip the time-consuming task of searching hundreds of colleges online for programs suitable for your student. We have provided all of that here in one place. This well-researched list, available in hard copy or online format, offers specific information on:
College programs for degree-seeking students with autism spectrum disorder
College programs for degree-seeking students with learning disabilities
Colleges with superior support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
Colleges with superior support for students who are blind or low vision
Colleges with superior support for students who are physically or mobility challenged
Fee-based or tuition-based programs, located on college campuses for non degree-seeking students with intellectual/developmental disabilities, very significant traumatic or acquired brain injury, congenital or medical conditions or very significant autism spectrum disorder (may be paid for in full or part by FAPE)
Who created the Database?
This valuable resource, used by parents and counselors around the nation and abroad, is the work of Allen Tinkler, MS Ed. Allen is a Learning Disability Teacher Consultant and Special Needs Transition Specialist who has personally visited over 400 colleges throughout the U.S.
For over 35 years, he gathered valuable program information by speaking directly with post-secondary disability support offices and their administrators. Rather than relying upon third-party research/information, every entry has been currently vetted for accuracy. When information is confirmed to be accurate the revision is made on the online database thereby making this resource THE MOST up-to-date resource available for this information. Subscribers receive an email message informing them about the revision.
Every college included in the database has been verified for accuracy. No college was included solely because one or several students with a disability did well there or because of a parent’s recommendation. No college was added to this database solely because it appeared on a website, in a college guide, or the HECA, IECA or NACAC listservs or blogs.
May I see a sample?
Below are two sample pages from the online database. Search for colleges with ASD or LD programs, filter and sort by disability category or state. View programs for improving social, employment and independent living skills for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities, traumatic/acquired brain injury, congenital/medical conditions or very significant autism spectrum disorder.
